Genetics Matter
From fiber to flower. Why the seed we plant determines the oil in your bottle.

Laura Freeman
Founder & Farmer
Hemp is a incredibly versatile plant, but "hemp" is a broad term. It's like saying "dog"—a Chihuahua is very different from a Great Dane.
Three Types of Hemp
- Fiber Hemp: Tall, skinny stocks (10-15 ft). Grown for textiles, rope, and building materials (hempcrete). Low cannabinoid content.
- Grain Hemp: Grown for the seeds (hearts). High nutrition, low cannabinoids.
- Floral Hemp (CBD): Short, bushy plants. Grown for the sticky resin on the flowers. This is what we grow for Laura's Mercantile.
Our Strains
We choose strains specifically adapted to the humid, hot Kentucky summers.
1. Berry Blossom
- Profile: High CBD, robust terpene profile (myrcene dominant).
- Characteristics: Resists mold well, which is crucial in our climate.
2. Cherry Wine
- Profile: A classic CBD strain. Notes of sweet cherry and cheese.
- Characteristics: Consistent producer of high-quality resin.
We grow from clones or feminized seeds to ensure every plant is a female flower producer (males produce pollen, which ruins the cannabinoid production). It's more work, but it yields a superior product.
