Pet Safety & Usage
Our furry friends have an Endocannabinoid System too. Here is how to navigate hemp for pets.

Laura Freeman
Founder & Farmer
Did you know that all mammals have an Endocannabinoid System (ECS)? In fact, dogs have a higher density of CB1 receptors in their brains than humans do.
This means two things:
- They are very sensitive.
- They can benefit greatly.
Is CBD Safe for Pets?
Generally, yes. CBD is non-toxic to dogs and cats. However, THC can be dangerous in high doses. Because dogs have so many CB1 receptors, THC can cause "static ataxia" (loss of balance), drooling, and anxiety.
Always use a product specifically formulated for pets or a high-quality human product with <0.3% THC.
Potential Benefits
Pet owners use CBD for:
- Separation Anxiety: Calmness during thunderstorms or when left alone.
- Mobility: Helping older dogs with stiff joints move more freely.
- Wound Care: Topical salves for hot spots or dry paws.
Dosing for Dogs
The rule of thumb is 1-2mg of CBD for every 10 lbs of body weight.
| Dog Weight | Starting Dose | | :--- | :--- | | 10 lbs | 1-2 mg | | 50 lbs | 5-10 mg | | 100 lbs | 10-20 mg |
Warning: Never use products containing Xylitol (an artificial sweetener found in some human gummies), as it is toxic to dogs. Stick to natural oils or pet treats.
